Presentation is everything. The best way to sell a car is in person. The second best way is on the Internet in a way that makes your buyer feel as if it were in person. It's all in the details. Here are some suggestions:

  • Use multiple photos, interior and exterior. A good selection of 8-12 photos is plenty. Some companies try to convince you that you need 30-50 photos of a car. In truth, most people who see listings like that only view 10-20 percent of the images anyway. If you provide enough quality photos to show the condition and features of the car, everything beyond that is simply a waste of space.
  • Make sure your photos are good quality. Use a good quality digital camera in good light. Bright sun is not always the best. Often a bright overcast day is ideal because it is a nice flat even light without lots of bright spots contrasting with deep shadows. If taking photos indoors, create an environment that has a much light as possible and avoid using the flash.
  • Take photos of attractive angles of the vehicle to show all sides. Take photos of any close-up details you wish to highlight, such as special edition badges. Interior photos should show the condition of the seating areas as well as the carpets. Taking close-ups of the dash can be difficult to get in focus. Photos that are not in focus should not be used.
  • Take photos of the vehicle in a location that maximizes the focus on the vehicle you are showcasing. Avoid other vehicles in the shots. If you have a location that has trees or other tall things like power poles, be careful to avoid shadows on the car. If you can take a photo of the vehicle with a sign for your dealership or logo on a backdrop, it will help to increase brand recognition for your company.
  • Details, details, details. We allow unlimited space for the descriptions of the vehicles. Tell the whole story. Give as much detail about the features, condition, and history of the vehicle as possible. A great idea is to make a CARFAX report available.
